Meet our team
Ana Paula fugolin, DDS, Ms, PHD

Assistant Professor
Department of Restorative Dentistry
OHSU School of Dentistry
Dr. Fugolin is a dentist-scientist whose research for the past 13 years has focused on polymers development and characterization. She earned her DDS from Piracicaba Dental School - UNICAMP, obtained her MS and PhD in Dental Materials also from UNICAMP with an internship period at Oregon Health & Science University, where she returned to take her postdoctoral training in Biomaterials & Biomechanics. Her training was marked by the continuous expansion of her research skills and the broadening of her research interests, which are highlighted not only by the more of 38 scientific papers and book chapters she has published on a great variety of topics but the introduction of new paradigms. She has worked on the development of degradation resistant compounds, polymerization stress-reducing and toughness-optimizing additives, and polymers with antimicrobial properties. Her most recently projects are focused on the design, synthesis and characterization of self-healing biomaterials and bio-responsive platforms for on-demand delivery of therapeutic agents. Dr. Fugolin's recently founded laboratory has already attracted almost $1.5 million in research funding.

Postdoctoral Fellow
Dr. Rajasekaran is from Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. Her thesis was on "Studies on Chitosan-Graphene Oxide Based Hybrid Scaffolds for Tissue Engineering Applications". She has extensive experience in synthesis and characterization of both natural (chitosan, pectin, guar gum) and synthetic polymers (polycaprolactone and polypyrrole) -based tissue engineering scaffolds, metal nanoparticles, and carbon nanomaterials such as graphene oxide. Her interest is to explore the polymeric biomaterials and nanoparticles resulting in the fabrication of multifunctional systems for drug delivery and tissue engineering applications.
